Beach Fitness and More: An Active Traveler’s Guide to South Walton
We talked to local yoga instructor and fitness expert Angela Ragsdale about her favorite ways to stay active in paradise.
Beach Fitness
If you’re into maximizing your beach time while staying active, you’ve got plenty of options. There’s nothing like clearing your head in the morning with a solo run or walk as the sun rises. Digging your feet in the sand is an extra-intense workout, plus you’ll just feel a lot happier about running when it’s happening on the beach. We’re not sure why that’s true – it just is.
If you’re looking for more of a structured activity, book a private or group yoga session on the beach with Angela. She’s fun and friendly – perfect for beginners – but also really knows her stuff, so if you’re more advanced, you’ll be right at home, as well.
Connect With Nature
Want to jump into nature and see what South Walton has to offer away from the beach? Head out to one of our fantastic state parks or lakes to do a little hiking or biking! In addition to the great workout you’ll get on a range of trails, the scenery is unparalleled – don’t forget your phone! Angela’s favorite place to explore nature is Point Washington State Forest, where 3.5-, 5- or 10-mile trail loops bring you face to face with a cornucopia of rare and endangered plants and animals.
Feel like making a splash, instead? Rent a stand-up paddleboard and head out on the water for an experience that will have you questioning why you haven't been gliding on the water your whole life.
Because of its limestone base and sandy floor, which give the springs its exceptional clarity, Morrison Springs is one of Florida’s most popular diving destinations. Experienced divers come for the intricate underwater cave system at the heart of the springs, but even beginners can enjoy real-life high-definition views of aquatic wildlife.
