2020 South Walton Artist of the Year Winner Announced

WALTON COUNTY, Fla.—January 24, 2020 – Visit South Walton is pleased to announce Doug Foltz, local, coastal landscape artist, as the 2020 South Walton Artist of the Year. During the 2020 Perfect Awards ceremony, presented by Visit South Walton on Thursday, Jan. 23 at the Grayton Beer Company Taproom, Foltz was presented with the award by fellow local artist and 2019 South Walton Artist of the Year recipient, Jenna Varney.

“His luminous big sky and sea paintings awaken a feeling of spiritual transcendence as the light within draws you in deeper,” Varney said of Foltz.

Celebrating its 18th year, the South Walton Artist of the Year award is an established community program, showcasing South Walton artists and their work throughout the year, by way of various events and publicity opportunities. In addition, the recipient is awarded $4,000 in exchange for a piece of artwork that will be put on public display for visitors and locals to enjoy.

“It’s very rewarding,” Foltz said, regarding his Artist of the Year honor. “I see this as an opportunity for me to not just promote myself, but the arts community in Walton County and what I think those two mean to one another.”

About Doug: Foltz, a coastal landscape painter, has spent much of his life exploring alone on, or near, the water. As the son of a hobbyist painter living in Miami, he was quick to pick up a paint brush at a young age, and soon a fascination with the sky and water, and the edges between, built the foundation of his work as a painter. Foltz says his work falls somewhere between abstract and representational, but “people tend to call it interpretive.” To learn more about Foltz, visit his website: www.dougfoltz.com.
